Well...
When you set up this new version of SDC, the "Skins and Themes" section started to mess up !
Impossible to get a fresh "updated skins" list. The thumbnail panel is absolutely useless as it looks now. Takes ages to show this one skin I want to see... when it shows anything at all.
Very often shows 30-40 times the same skin in a section.
Tried to install every single update, but it's always the same. Boy, why the heck did you change it...? It was working very fine before !!

Sorry if I read a bit negative, but I'm as much disappointed as I was happy before.

Paul-Eric

Did you Delete the C:\Program Files\Stardock\SDCentral before you installed? Also, did you update WC Browser with the update that came out today?
on Mar 18, 2004
Yes, I did the SDCentral folder, rebooted, then installed SDCentral again. But, where is there notice to update the WC Browser? I've looked all over, and I don't see it. As a matter of fact, my browser states that I have Version 1.29(.002. If I go to the Browser download page, it says only Version 1.20.

OK...let's try this....did about 10 or so updates show up on SDC for you today?

...oh yeah, one more thing....did you install WC Browser from a download or thru SDC?

Here ya go Diane...I made a few calls...http://storage.stardock.com/files/sdcentral_current.exe
Delete the contents of Program Files\Stardock\Sdcentral\Temp first, as it may contain older caches. Do not Delete the 'Temp' folder itself...just the contents.

Yeah, a bunch of SD program updates showed up, so I updated most of them. But, it never occurred to me to check for a WC browser through SDC. DOH!! All I did was look through the WC website. Anyway, I'll do the rest of the updating, including removing the SD temp files this evening, when I get home from work. It looks like that should really do it. Gary, what would I do without you? You da man!!!

Gary, I've uninstalled, removed, rebooted, reinstalled, uninstalled....reinstalled, at least five times. Each time I do, SDC seems to work OK for a few minutes, then something goes cerfluey (sp). Usually, it's the Skins library, wherein OB seems to invade the other libraries, pushing out the other programs' themes. Kinda like a weed. Once, the discussion groups got screwed up, when there was little distinction between General or Help or Skinning, other than maybe the order of the posts, and the dates of posting.

I'm at a point now where I cannot go to Add/Remove Programs, because the install.log cannot be found. So, I just d the SD Browser folder AGAIN, and reinstalled. I'm sure something is really screwed up in the registry, but I am not capable of messing around with that.

SDC seems to be working OK right now, so I figured I'd fire off this message. Probably, in a few minutes, I will no longer have the opportunity.

Hey Diane... just wrote a very long game plan for this and when I went to submit it, it logged me out ....grrrrr (sometimes, this site just....).

Anyway, the short of it is, I don't think it's a registry problem. Try this ..right click on WC Tray Component (not the SDC Tray Component) and click on Settings/Advanced/Refresh WC Libraries. If that doesn't do the trick, let me know and we'll attack the WC Browser install...I think that's where the problem is...

What and where is the tray component?

That's what I Thought...

In SDC/Software under the Wincustomize tab you'll see an install for Wincustomize Tray...make sure you have checked 'Show Pre-release Verisons' in lower left corner of SDC. Install and do as noted above. Now see what happens with SDC skins.....

Well, Gary, you sure got me pegged. But, I did have the latest SD tray installed. I just never used it. But, as you instructed, I refreshed the libraries. Nada. The skin libraries are still all screwed up. So, I'm waiting for what you advise on the WC browser install. TIA

Diane...it's not the SD tray...it's the WC tray. You should have both in your system tray. If you do then continue on.....

Open SDC and un-install WC Browser and the WC tray (if you do have it installed). Delete folders: C:\Program Files\WinCustomize\SkinBrowser and C:\Program Files\WinCustomize\Tray and C:\Program Files\Stardock\WinCustomize\SkinBrowser. If, by chance, you have two instances of any of those folders (I think you installed both from SDC and the site version, so you may have more then one) then Delete those too. Re-boot. Open SDC and install both WC browser and WC tray and if prompted to do so, then re-boot....in either case let WC Browser update the libraries (it will appear when you click on Skins & Themes that nothing is happening, but it is, so give it a couple of minutes. When it's done you will see the # of new skins to the right of each library.

....now try SDC and see what it does...

Gary, I finally got the opportunity to uninstall the browser and tray, and reinstall, etc. It seems to work great right now. I'm just hoping it stays that way. Yet again, thanks.

One more thing..... I get a new message now when I open SDC. "Please make sure that you are launching Stardock Central from a shortcut to loader.exe rather than sdcentral.exe". I click OK, and SDC loads up. I don't know what this is about, but it seems to work anyway.

Knock on wood, but everything should work from here on in....

The prompt is for any shortcuts you may have created to open SDC....change the shortcut path to: C:\Program Files\Stardock\SDCentral\Loader.exe

Screwed up again All I did was update a few programs through SDC that appeared last night. Now, I cannot access the message boards, as it causes the entire program to just shut down. I'm writing this through the WC Browser. Also, the skins library is all screwed up again. I'm going to do the uninstall reboot, install, reboot thang again, but this is getting ridiculous. WHY IS THIS HAPPENING?

Diane - something is wrong with your set-up...just not sure what it is. Mine, no matter what I do, works flawlessly. One thing you have to remember, as I said before, is do not update the Libraries using the SDC Tool Settings...both WC Browser and SDC auto update the skins when you click on Skins and Libraries. Again, it takes a minute or so to do it (Broadband) and it doesn't appear to be doing anything (re:updating skins), but it is.

A couple of questions:

Do you use IE as your default web browser?
Do you have a Firewall, cookie killer or pop up stopper installed...if yes..who's?
You should only have two Stardock folders containing all your apps...are these the only two you have (any will be in the Program Files Folder)?:
#1 C:\Program Files\Stardock
#2 C:\Program Files\WinCustomize

Finally, is the SDC version installed: 1.30.264 built 46 and the WC Browser version: 1.29c(.003 ?

Un-installing and re-installing, at this point, is a waste of time, so refrain from doing it until we figure out what's going on.
